Guests at a garden party at London's Buckingham Palace were reportedly told not to wish Britain's Prince Philip a 'Happy Birthday'.
More than 8,000 people turned up to the celebrations yesterday (10.06.14) to mark the royal's 93rd birthday but were left stunned when they were "advised" by his ushers not to mention the milestone.
When the prince was handed a present by one guest, he also replied: "Can you hand that to someone as I don't want to lug it round the garden!"
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Taina Teegan from the children's charity Variety, said: "As the Duke is a patron of Variety, we held a 90th birthday party for him.
"But today we were told not to wish him Happy Birthday. Maybe it just gets a bit boring or annoying for him if everyone says it."
She added: "It was great to meet him though - he has a very good sense of humour."
Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of Cambridge were also among the guests and Duchess Catherine looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen dress, which she previously wore to a Thanksgiving event at St Paul's Cathedral.
Samantha Webster from the New Zealand Society attended the party and handed the prince a few presents.
She said: "I wished him Happy Birthday and gave him a possum and a burgundy merino wool scarf that my mum had sent him.
"He was quite funny - he said, 'Can you hand that to someone as I don't want to lug it round the garden!'
"I'm not sure if he was impressed or not - but it was a lovely scarf."
