At the time of writing, Great Britain have just won their first gold medal at the London Olympics, in the women’s pair rowing.
And perhaps one reason for this (despite their obvious talent) was the rousing encouragement that they received yesterday from the royals.
The Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Prince Harry dropped by the official residence of the Olympic team to wish them good luck, as well as congratulating swimmer Rebecca Adlington on her 400m freestyle bronze medal.
The royal trio had been at the Games to cheer along Zara Phillips in the equestrian eventing final.
The 23-year-old swimmer was apparently star struck after meeting the duchess, saying: “I just love her shoes. They're much nicer than the sports gear we're wearing this week”.
The shoes in question are cork-heeled £245 wedges by Stuart Weitzman, for high street brand Russell & Bromley.
