Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is said to be "recovering well" after her hysterectomy operation yesterday (05.03.07).Prince Charles visited his wife after she left theatre at London's King Edward VII Hospital last night, entering and exiting half an hour later through a side door to avoid reporters. Clarence House said in a statement: "The Duchess of Cornwall had her operation this morning and is recovering well." Camilla - whose surgery was performed by royal gynaecologists Michael Dooley and Marcus Setchell - is expected to remain in hospital until the end of the week. She will then need a further six-weeks rest at home. All of the duchess' planned engagements for this period have been postponed, to ensure she makes a full and comfortable recovery before returning to her royal duties. Camilla, 59, was also visited by her daughter, Laura, as police stood guard outside the hospital entrance to ensure maximum security and privacy for the duchess. Her hysterectomy operation - which involved the removal of all, or part, of the womb - was scheduled in advance and the reason for the surgery has not been disclosed.
However, Clarence House has assured that the treatment was not cancer related, saying that it was just a routine measure.
