Itâs Chelsea Flower Show next week, so why not plant the seeds of success to ensure your ideal job crops up this year. With summer in full bloom, if you are looking to get back into work, or simply want to find a better job, make sure you are the best in this yearâs show with these top tips from Wendy Perkins, Jobcentre Plus Advisor:
Make sure you have the right tools
If a new start is what you need this summer, does the job or career sector you are thinking of require specific qualifications? If so, donât be put off. There are many opportunities to train to obtain these. Your local Jobcentre Plus can point you in the right direction.
Make your hobby your job
Thinking about what you enjoy doing in your spare time is often a good place to start when looking for work. You will feel far more motivated and energised if you are doing something you enjoy. For example, if you like gardening have you considered a job at a garden centre, or if you like baking and cake making, a job in a bakers or tea shop? If itâs surfing the internet and computers, you could aim for a career in IT.
Sow the right seeds with a top-notch CV
Your CV should ideally be:
Neat â a typed, rather than hand-written CV looks more professional Short â no more than two sides of A4 Positive â use your CV as a way to sing your own praises â no one else can do it for you. Emphasise your achievements, strengths and successes Clear â make sure a potential employer can understand everything you have written
