Toddlers love Christmas. Why? Because they are at the perfect age to understand what it’s all about- babies might appreciate the lights and the pretty colours but it’s all a mystery to them.

Toddlers on the other hand are starting to get caught up in the joy of it all. The presents, the sweet treats and the build up for Santa’s arrival. We could all do with being a bit more toddler during the festive season, here’s why…

They believe: Without question. As children get older they start to pick at the finer details- but toddlers believe it all and it makes you want to join in and believe along with them just like you did when you were a kid. So get swept up in the magic of Christmas all over again because your toddler would love to have you along for the ride.

The excitement: Nothing compares to how excited a toddler gets at Christmastime. The idea of getting lots of presents all on one day- more than they get at any other time of year is mind blowing for them and they can’t physically control their giddiness in the lead up to the big day. We should all get excited a little more at Christmas- especially this year. Presents aside, it might be the first time we’ve all been together in months and you can’t put a price on that.

Toddlers make the most of the day: Toddlers rise early anyway, but usually on Christmas Day they will get up a little earlier because they simply can’t wait to open presents. In other words, they squeeze every bit of time out of the day to make the most of it because it’s one of the best days of the year. So why not join them in making the most out of this special time?

Toddlers tear open presents with enthusiasm: None of this ‘I don’t want to tear this nice paper’ or ‘I will take my time’ mentality- toddlers will rip open paper whether you have spent pounds or pence on it to find the treasures inside. We should all be more toddler when it comes to gifts because it shows the giver that you are excited to see what they have bought you.

Toddlers are laser focused on the day: Once they open their first advent chocolate, that’s it- it’s all about Christmas and nothing else comes close. As adults we have more things to consider in the run up to the big day like budgeting, planning and wrapping up work. While toddlers don’t have this to think about, we can still take a leaf from their book and hone in on the end goal when things get tough along the way.

Toddlers get an early night: The sooner they go to sleep, the sooner they can wake and Santa will have been. Toddlers ensure they are well rested for the big day by getting an early night. Try and set yourself up for the same if you are hosting, cooking or just because you will be up with the larks with your little one!

Christmas is a magical time of year: There is something magical about the thought of flying reindeer, elves and a generous man in a big red suit. No other time of year compares to the way Christmas makes us feel. Toddlers know this- they embrace the magic and wonder of it all and it’s about time we did too. This unique time in the calendar has the power to bring us all a little closer together and celebrate as one. Toddlers open themselves up to the magic- and we should all follow suit.

Happy Christmas to all the parents of toddlers out there!
