Valentine’s Day isn’t just about you and your partner when you have children, it’s a day to show them how much you love them too so if you have a little one running around at home, here are some things you can do to keep them entertained on the day of love!

Have a Valentine’s Day buffet: Toddlers love nothing more than picky foods so why not raid your local supermarket for all of their hearty offerings and have a little spread at home on your dining table? You could invite those over you are bubbling with so everyone can have a tuck in! If you want to go all out, you could purchase a red tablecloth and some heart sprinkles- maybe blow up a few heart shaped balloons and have some romantic music in the background.
Do some colouring: Amazon has some lovely offerings in the colouring books department all dedicated to this day so pull out all of your toddler's pencils and crayons and let them enjoy some creative time!
Read a story about love: Guess How Much I Love You is one that springs to mind right away, however there are lots of fitting books to read to your little one to teach them about this emotion including touch and feel books for younger toddlers and story based books for those who can follow a good yarn. Valentine’s Day is the ideal day to learn!
Play I Spy: Another Amazon find is Valentine’s Day I Spy- a book to encourage your child to seek out objects that are associated with Valentine’s Day such as hearts, teddy bears and flowers. You could always come up with a list of your own if you are working to a budget, but if not, this is an activity your toddler will surely love.
Make heart shaped treats: You may need to invest a little in some cutters or moulds for this but you could bake and decorate cookies, set some red jelly in a heart shaped mould, create some heart shaped chocolates, make a giant heart cake or cook some heart shaped pancakes or eggs for breakfast. You can shape just about anything into a heart and let’s face it, everything tastes better when it looks like love on a plate!
Go on a heart treasure hunt: Admittedly, I’ve pinched the idea from Easter but instead of hiding chocolate eggs around your home or garden, hide little chocolate hearts instead and help your toddler to find each one. Make sure they are all in easy reach and let them eat at least one when they’re successfully collected them all!
Buy them a suitably themed outfit to wear for the day: Online stores are awash with little outfits emblazoned with hearts or little messages of love, so take a look around and see if you can find something adorable to dress them in for the day and if you go out for a walk it will surely make people smile. If not, take a picture of your little one in it and send it to those you can’t be with.
