Over the past decade, we have seen a rise in the purchase of ‘push presents’ – a gift given to a woman from her partner after childbirth.
Although this might seem like a new trend, it is believed that cavemen used to give their partners trinkets after the birth to their baby. The biggest difference is that they have got more and more expensive as the years have gone by. Just imagine what Harry will be gifting Meghan upon the birth of Prince Archie!
We have some suggestions, depending on your budget, for presents you can buy the mother of your child now she’s brought your baby into the world safely.
An eternity ring- Eternity rings are one of the most common gifts bought to mark the birth of the first child in the family. These don’t have to be as expensive as an engagement or wedding ring so if you are tight for money, you can opt for something more modestly priced. So long as it matches in well with her existing jewellery you are on the right track.
Birthstone jewellery- Why not find out which stone corresponds with the month in which your little one was born and find a fitting piece of jewellery for your loved one that centres around this jewel?
Here is a list to give you some inspiration:
- January Birthstone: Garnet
- February Birthstone: Amethyst
- March Birthstone: Aquamarine
- April Birthstone: Diamond
- May Birthstone: Emerald
- June Birthstone: Pearl or Alexandrite
- July Birthstone: Ruby
- August Birthstone: Peridot
- September Birthstone: Sapphire
- October Birthstone: Tourmaline or Opal
- November Birthstone: Topaz or Citrine
- December Birthstone: Tanzanite, Zircon or Turquoise
Colour appropriate jewellery- You could buy your partner a piece of jewellery that reflects the sex of your baby. Rhodochrosite, rose quartz, rubelite and tourmaline are ideal for baby girls and sapphire, Kyanite, Lapis Lazuli, Zircon, Topaz, and Aquamarine are more suited for little boys.
A spa day- A woman’s body endures a lot during childbirth, so what better way to say thank you than some time to relax and unwind while you watch your baby? You could include a treatment as part of the package like a massage or a mani-pedi. Just be sure not to book it too soon after the birth as they may still be feeling sore. This might be one for a few months down the line, so they have something to look forward to.
A voucher to their favourite clothes shop- After nine months of wearing big and baggy clothes, your other half might want to refresh their wardrobe with things that don’t have ‘maternity’ emblazoned on the tag. If you know where they love to shop, a voucher could help them to feel more like themselves again.
A charm- If your partner has a charm bracelet, this is the perfect opportunity to add to her collection with one in celebration of your new bundle of joy that she can treasure every time she wears it.
A cinema voucher- If she loves to go to the movies, you could get a year’s subscription to your local cinema or a voucher to see a few new films. This along with your promise to babysit when she wants to go with friends for a girly night out or you could have childcare pre-arranged for you both to go together on a date night.
