Seven fun facts about October babies

If you were born in October, there are a few things you should know about entering the world in this month of the year. October babies are very special indeed.

October babies share their birthday month with many famous people: Lena Heady, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Eisenberg, Elizabeth Shue and Matt Damon to name a few- all of whom are very successful actors which bodes well for future October babes.

Birthstones: October babies don’t just get the one birthstone, they can choose between Opal and Tourmaline, or opt for both! It is said that if you wear opal and don’t have an October birthday it will bring bad luck. October babies are safe to wear opals and tourmaline in rings, necklaces and bracelets once they are grown up, so gifting is easy so long as you pick one of these two options.

Star sign: A baby born in October can either be a Libran (most babies are) or a Scorpio (from 22nd onwards) for the late arrivals towards the end of the month. Librans and Scorpios share traits such as commitment and togetherness when it comes to family and friends however Scorpios can be more intense and passionate than Librans as balance is key to keeping a Libran happy.

Birth Flower: The Calendula is the birth flower of the month of October. The name calendula means "throughout the months." This flower is used by gardeners as an insect repellent and by chefs as a spicy seasoning or bright colouring for food. So, if you know someone who has an October birthday and is into gardening or you need a present for a baby born this month- this is the flower to gift them.

National Month Observances: Those born in October share this month with many other national observances including Vegetarian Awareness Month, so if you come across someone who is a passionate vegetarian and born in October, it's a match made in heaven!

October babies have lots to look forward to: Their birth month is host to Halloween, pumpkin spiced lattes, the clocks going back and the changing colours of autumn so there is lots to celebrate in October, other than their birthday of course!

You won’t find many babies born on Halloween: A study by Yale University School of Public Health found that fewer babies are born on this day because of the spooky and scary connotations of All Hallow’s Eve.
