More families than average, two fifths to be exact will be travelling through Heathrow this Easter to take advantage of the Bank holiday.
And to keep things exciting, the UK’s hub airport has partnered with Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit™ to provide a special welcome for families.
Peter Rabbit will be on hand to meet families and offer storytelling and free Peter Rabbit™ Passport activity booklets to the airport’s littlest travellers whilst arts and craft sessions will be running in each of the terminals’ play areas to keep families entertained.
Susan Goldsmith, Terminal 5’s Operations Director at Heathrow and mother-of-two understands that travelling with children can sometimes feel challenging for parents.
She said: “Easter is a special time at Heathrow, but we know travelling with children can be a challenge.
“The Heathrow team have been busy preparing and we are ready to welcome families with activities to help make sure the excitement of Easter starts the moment they arrive at the airport.”
Susan shares her top tips for travelling with children:
1. Bring some small games for your child and make full use of our play areas in the terminals so they can burn off some energy before they have to sit still on the flight. Our Peter Rabbit passport themed colouring booklets will be a nice surprise on arrival and will keep their hands busy for a while.
2. If you want to keep your young ones to their regular meal times, take advantage of our Kids Eat Free offers at Heathrow restaurants - they all have high chairs and activity packs on standby.
3. Many parents find travelling through security with security a daunting prospect – we have developed family lanes to help make this a little bit easier.
The lanes are wider, there is playful signage at your child’s eye level and our specially trained teams, including 150 passenger ambassadors, will be on hand to help with larger items such as buggies and changing bags.
4. Make sure you take time to enjoy your journey too - we will have live concert performances by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Terminal 5. Artisan chocolatier, Cocomaya will also be opening a pop up shop in Terminal 5 on 21 March so you can treat yourself to some gourmet truffles this Easter.
