When it comes to choosing a godmother for your child you want to be sure that you’ve chosen the perfect one.
New research shows that if the nation were to pick any celebrity to be their child’s godmother it was be presenter and chat show host Lorraine Kelly.
Lorraine beat many celebrities to the top spot, including Dame Helen Mirren, Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
After Lorraine Kelly, Brits would most like Dame Helen Mirren to be the godmother to their children, followed in third place by Dame Maggie Smith.
Another Dame took the fourth spot, with 12.6 per cent voting for Dame Julie Andrews.
Meryl Streep came in at number five, followed by the two songstresses Beyonce and Lady Gaga.
Britain’s very own Kate Moss came in eighth place, with her hard partying and super busy lifestyle probably putting mums off.
When it came to what the title of godmother actually entails, over half of Brits admitted that they were unsure.
However, what they did agree on is that godmothers should be giving money to help raise the child to the tune of £100 in the child’s first five years.
The survey was conducted for Princess Cruises to celebrate the official naming ceremony which saw HRH The Duchess of Cambridge become Godmother to Royal Princess.
Paul Ludlow, UK Director of Princess Cruises, said, “Appointing a godmother to name a new ship is one of maritime’s oldest traditions.
“Historically their role is to be entrusted with the safe guidance of a vessel and its passengers by blessing the ship, usually by breaking a bottle over the bow. We were thrilled to welcome the Duchess of Cambridge, godmother to Royal Princess, to Southampton.”
“Yet while our tradition of having a Godmother is still going strong, our survey has revealed some surprising findings about modern-day attitudes to the role of godparents.”
