Sadly, pub lunches, afternoon teas and days out for mums are not an option this year, but don’t worry, if you’re housebound and stuck for ideas, here are some suggestions…
Breakfast in bed: Your mum still needs pampering on Mother’s Day, so why not make her breakfast in bed and deliver it with her card once she’s had a long lie in? It’s three treats in one- perfect!
Mum’s choice movie night: You are bound to have her favourite DVD in your collection or something she’d like to watch on one of the many streaming services, so let her decide what you will be watching on the box- no objections! If you’ve got any in the house, bring out the popcorn and fizzy drinks and turn down the lights for a truly authentic experience.
Sunday roast: You may not be able to go out and enjoy meat with all the trimmings at your mum’s favourite pub but you can always recreate the experience at home with a cooked from scratch Sunday roast and something delicious for dessert. Of if your mum prefers a rice dish, using this rice is a really nice touch...
In partnership with the World Food Programme, Tilda has launched limited-edition, specially marked packs of Tilda Pure Basmati Rice. For every specially marked pack purchased, Tilda will donate the equivalent value of a nutrition-boosting meal for a new or expectant mother in Bangladesh to help her stay healthy and give her child the best start in life.

Gifts delivered to the door: If you haven’t organised a gift for your mum yet, there’s still time to get something delivered to your house before or on the big day, here are our top suggestions if you are pondering over what she might like.
Take away: If you can’t eat out- get the food delivered to your door from your mum’s favourite take-away. It saves you having to dip into your food stocks and will feel like a real treat if you haven’t had a cheeky take out for a while. Plus you will be supporting a local business if you choose an independent.
Afternoon Tea: You may not be able to live it large in a posh hotel for afternoon tea, but there’s nothing stopping you from rustling up some sandwich triangles, a few scones and cakes to give your mum an afternoon to remember on Sunday. If you have any lying around, make sure the table is dressed for the occasion with a cloth and some serviettes!
Facetime: If you don’t live with your mum and still want to see her lovely face on the day- Facetime her so you can at least pretend like you are in the same room. You could even eat your meal together if you pop your screen in the middle of the table!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there, especially those who won’t be able to spend time with your families this year.
