The pool can be fun for parents and the baby

This summer, Huggies is launching its Swim Savvy campaign to provide mums and dads with helpful advice to make swimming with their little ones an enjoyable and rewarding experience, not to mention hassle free.

Swimming on holiday is often the inspiration for many young families to enjoy their local pool when they get back home. And as millions of families head overseas in search of some summer sun, the Swim Savvy campaign will be on hand with practical advice from Swimming expert Anna Woodhart.

The Water Babies teacher said: “Swimming with your baby is one of the most incredible things you can do. Splashing around in the pool with your little one can boost confidence, strengthen bonds and help both you and baby to stay fit and healthy.

“Too many people are put-off going swimming with their little one because of the hassle or stress that they think taking them in the pool may cause – even when they are on holiday. The risk of unfortunate bathroom accidents in the pool can be off-putting, but by putting your baby in a swim nappy, such as Huggies Little Swimmers, this can be easily avoided."

This is usually one of the main barriers to swimming with little ones - the embarrassment factor of having a little accident in the pool. But with the right know-how parents can rest easy and be sure that their child makes the right sort of splash.

Here’s Anna’s top Swim Savvy tips to help you and your baby enjoy pool time:

1. Always put a swim nappy on your little one before going into the pool. Huggies Little Swimmers have unique leak guards to avoid little accidents escaping as well as easy open sides to make change time as hassle free as possible.

2. Avoid swimming if you or your little one has had a tummy upset in the past 24 hours.

3. If you are going on holiday, it’s a good idea to get your little one water-ready first – even if it’s just splashing a little water over them in the bath.

4. Stay by your little one at all times. Not only is it safe, but it also helps form a close bond.

5. Maintain eye contact with your little one, smile, relax and drop down to the same level – your baby will love seeing you splashing too!

6. One of the best ways to get into the pool is to lay your baby safely on the poolside, enter the water and then lift him/her in.

7. To help baby relax, keep your baby's face close to your own and maintain eye contact.

8. If you are new to baby swimming go during off-peak times or earlier in the morning if you are on holiday - it makes the entire experience less stressful and more enjoyable.
