Move over Yummy Mummies, it’s the ‘Dummy Mummies’ that you need to look out for according to a new study which highlights the funnier side of parenting in advance of mothers day.

The study lists the wittiest new fangled parenting jargon from the Baby Gaga to Dadmin and The Naughty Two-Step which have entered the parenting vernacular in 2011.

The research study of 2000 British parents, was specially commissioned to mark the release of bringing up baby comedy ‘Life As We Know It’ which is released this week on DVD and Blu-Ray.

This lighthearted rom-com starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel, explores the hilarious calamities of unexpected parenthood when the couple are left to bring up their best friends’ child and quickly realise that they must juggle careers and social calendars whilst setting their differences aside. 

The team compiled a lexicon of the very latest parenting jargon via a series of focus groups with young parents.  The long list was then put to the public vote and parents were asked to identify the funniest new parental jargon terms.

The term ‘Dummy Mummy’ took the number one spot with 17% of the vote for the term which is used to describe a new mother who has lost the capacity to talk about anything other than her new born child! 

The naughty two-step, a ritual dance performed by child to demonstrate reluctance to go and sit on the naughty step, came in second with 15% of the vote closely followed by Baby Gaga a term used to describe a little show-off on 14%.

Further slang alluded to the remarkable abilities of grandparents when it comes to providing baby help (Nansformer) and the soaring cost of childcare (Nanny McFee).

Full top ten of Parenting Jargon

1. Dummy-mummy - A woman rendered brain dead by the arrival of her all-consuming new born – one who loses the ability to talk about anything other than babies   - 17%

2. The Naughty Two-Step - Ritual dance performed by child to demonstrate reluctance to go and sit on the naughty step - 15%

3. Baby Gaga - A little show-off - 14%

4. Nansformer - when granny transforms into a multi-functional super-efficient domestic robot upon the arrival of baby - 10%

5. Dadmin - Jobs deemed particularly suited to Dad - like taking out the stinking nappy bin or fixing a flat tyre on a buggy, putting up a shelf in the nursery - 8%

6. Code Brown - Junior's done a No.2 - 7%

7. Pump and Dump - Mum's going out for a big one with the girls and will be expressing milk in advance so she doesn't get the baby drunk when she returns - 6%

8. Disneyfying It - The art of making weekend chores interesting e.g. right kids this morning we're going to Asdaland - 5%

9. Nanny McFee - paying less to a teenager for child care as opposed to the £8 an hour for a professional - 4%

10. Eggotistical -  when a mother is convinced that the product of her egg MUST be a genius - 4%

Terms which narrowly missed out on the top ten include, Faternity Clothes, the circus-like bilious gowns proudly worn by the less sartorially-aware earth mummies, also Calpoholic which describes a baby who displays early predisposition to mood altering drugs and Pramnesia - fatigue-induced forgetfulness bought on by child-rearing.

The study also identified a rise in jargon that has been influenced by the recession including Baby Doomers - couples who warn young couples not to have a baby due to the huge costs involved, Nappie Cash - the ever-ready money parents need to spend on disposable nappies and the Electronic Babysitter referring to sitting kids in front of the TV to keep them amused.
