A vaccine is the best way to protect your child

More than one in three parents are scared to have their child immunised.

Recent research has revealed a lack of basic knowledge about immunisations amongst a UK’s leading online pregnancy and parenting community highlighting a need for more information to be made available to parents.

The research conducted by Calpol found that more than one in four fear that immunisations may trigger a condition, such as autism, despite proof back in 2003 from the World Health Organisation (WHO) that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is not linked to the condition.

Anna Loughran from the Calpol marketing team said: “It’s a real concern there is such a lack of confidence and awareness of immunisations among the parenting community. Adherence to the UK immunisation programme is a vital step towards disease prevention in young children. "

The research revealed more than one in three parents are scared for their child to be immunised and would delay immunisation over concerns of child safety.

The research also found a staggering 82 per cent of online respondents do not know how many immunisations children should have in their first year. Over a third rated the quality of information they get as average, poor or extremely poor and almost half said they don’t get enough information from their practice nurse about what to expect after immunisation.
