The West End production of War Horse, the award-winning play based on Michael Morpurgo's book, is due to close in March after a seven-year run.
The play has been the most successful of the National Theatre's history, and by the time it closes, the production will have been performed more than 3,000 times. The play has brought in £13.5 million, reaching more than seven million audience members worldwide.
The heart-warming play tells the story of Joey, a horse who serves in World War I. Morpurgo called it a "show like no other, with puppets at its heart," referring to the life-sized horse puppets skilfully manipulated in the show.
Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, War Horse premiered on 9 October 2007 at the National Theatre, before opening at the New London Theatre in March 2009. The play has won five Tony awards and was adapted by Steven Spielberg into an Oscar-nominated film.
The final performance of War Horse at the New London Theatre will take place on 12 March, and a UK tour will begin in autumn 2017.
