Harris was found guilty for twelve indecent on four girls between the ages of seven and eight between 1968 and 1986. Harris' trial took place last year, before he was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail in July.

Eight months later, London Gazette announced that Harris was to be stripped of his CBE, which he received back in 2006. Harris' Officer and Member of the Order of Australia were removed last week.

A statement in The Gazette read: "The Queen has directed that the appointment of Rolf Harris to be a Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 17 June 2006, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order."

Harris was awarded the CBE for his services to entertainment and the honour was given to him just a year after he painted the Queen for her 80th birthday portrait. And his stripping of this honour some after months of complaints that he had been able to keep it.

MP Simon Danczuk spoke out about this issue back in January asked why Harris had not yet been stripped of the honour. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Mr Danczuk is 'delighted' that finally Harris has been stripped of his CBE.

He said: "I am delighted to hear that Rolf Harris has been stripped of his CBE. It is simply unacceptable convicted sex offenders like Rolf Harris should be allowed to make a mockery of our honours system."

Harris was honoured with an MBE back in late sixties, before going on to receive an OBE and CBE for his work in the entertainment industry. As well as being stripped of these honours, Harris has also had his Bafta Fellowship revoked.

Harris is just one in a number of high profile figures who have been investigated for historic sex offences in the wake of the Jimmy Saville scandal.

And Harris is not the first to have had title and honours removed over the years, as Robert Mugabe was stripped of his honorary knighthood back in 2008, due to human rights violations. Boxer 'Prince' Naseem Hamed also had a MBE removed after being imprisoned for dangerous driving.
