New research from eBay has shown that nearly a third (30%) of Brits admit to keeping a Christmas present that they originally bought for somebody else.
The study went on to find that Londoners (35%) are the most likely to go through with the deed, with North West (25%) inhabitants the least likely to hang on to a gift they've bought for someone.
Women often do it more than men (34% vs 26%) whilst those in the age range of 16-24 (37%) are the biggest self-gifters.
Not just about gifting ourselves though, it was also found that half of us will treat ourselves whilst Christmas shopping, with 64% of those in the West Midlands admitting their Christmas shopping lists include a pre-thought present for themselves.
Brits have no issues in buying for themselves, but when it comes to certain family members they begin to struggle. Partners (26%) and siblings (15%) are the hardest to buy for whilst only 10% find buying their kids presents challenging.
Globally it was found that Italians (36%) and Russians (37%) confess to higher levels of self-gifting than Brits, with less than 20% of French and German shoppers (17% and 18% respectively) keep presents for themselves.
Julia Hutton-Potts, eBay spokesperson added: "We all know Christmas is a time for giving to our loved ones - and it appears it is also a time for giving to ourselves as well. With gift inspiration all around us, it's not surprising we also want to treat ourselves."
