Nathan Matthews, 28, and Shauna Phillips, 21 have a young daughter together and have now been in police custody for four days.

Last night, detectives were given a further 24 hours to question them, which is set to expire this afternoon.

Mr Matthews' mother Angie-Mae Galsworthy who's married to Becky's father Darren Galsworthy has sat with him during television appeals for the teenager's safe return home.

His girlfriend has even been seen to post numerous appeals on her social media accounts including Facebook, asking for information about Becky's whereabouts following her disappearance almost two weeks ago.

The notes posted by Miss Phillips included two messages from Becky's father which pleaded for information.

"Police have turned my house upside down trying to find any clues. What fresh new hell will we go through today?" he wrote at the time.

A local resident said of Nathan and Shauna, they're "just normal people. She messaged me and she asked me if I had seen Becky or I could help with the search."

Officers discovered chopped up body parts on Monday night after they were called to a new location in the Barton Hill area of Bristol, around a mile-and-a-half from the teen's home, thought to be those of Becky.

Previously searching another property just a street away from the house, the pol,ice then arrested four men and one woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.

After the discovery was made, Becky's father and his wife described the new developments as "too much to bear".

They added: "We have the support of a good family network to help us in these challenging times.

"We would ask that you treat Becky with the due reverence and allow us to come to terms with our grief in private."

Speaking on behalf of the family, Becky's grandfather John Galsworthy said: "We are heartbroken at what has been discovered overnight.

"We cannot begin to understand what has happened and why.

"Becky was a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece and we cannot put into words how devastated we are.

"We are pulling together as a family and ask to be left alone at this time."
