Others turn off their appliances when they are not using them and appliances like kettles are used as little as possible.
At a time when money is tight we can all use some tips to help keep our energy bills down so we are not faced with a surprise statement at the end of the year.
One-pot cooking. Using lots of different cooking methods costs more so by using just one pot you save on your bills but also creative something healthy for your entire family, like a stew or soup, packed with vegetables and protein.
Defrost your food thoroughly. Plan your meals ahead and get what you need from the freezer the day before so it has fully thawed by tea time the next day. The more frozen something is the more energy you will need to defrost it.
Use the microwave where possible. Microwaves are one of the most energy efficient appliances in a kitchen, compared to the hob and the oven. Turn it off once you have finished with it as it uses up energy to power its clock.
Alternative cookers use less energy. Solar box cookers or pressure cookers are more energy friendly than your normal oven. Slow cookers also allow you to go away and do other things while it prepares you meal or you over the course of a day.
Using a steamer to cook vegetables. The layered compartments cook more at once and only use on pot and one energy source, rather than several different pans on the hob.
