The Killers have recently released their annual Christmas single, “Happy Birthday Guadalupe,” via (RED), on World AIDS Day. This is the band’s fourth Christmas single to benefit (RED); all the proceeds from the song’s sales go directly the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.
The song and video are available for sale now at all digital service providers. The song also features guest turns by the bands Wild Light and Mariachi El Bronx, both of whom opened for The Killers on the last leg of their massive American tour this autumn.
“We’re thrilled to be releasing our fourth Christmas song with (RED),” said Killers’ front man Brandon Flowers. “(RED), through the Global Fund programs it supports, has made great strides in providing care to those affected by AIDS throughout Africa, and it’s our honour to continue to contribute to that cause.”
“Happy Birthday Guadalupe” is another holiday smash by The Killers, whose past Christmas songs have seen them collaborating with Elton John, The Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant and others. The video for the song is a spooky tale of lost love set in the desert, filled with otherworldly spirits, angels, skeletons and a very special cameo by Luke Perry.
The Killers’ new single caps off an unbelievable year for the Las Vegas foursome. Touring throughout 2009 behind acclaimed third studio album, Day & Age, The Killers sold out some of the world’s biggest, most prestigious venues, including London’s 02, New York’s Madison Square Garden, LA’s Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks and more.
They played brilliant headlining sets to rapturous response at T In The Park, V Festival, Coachella and Lollapalooza, and just released an incredible live DVD/album – Live From the Royal Albert Hall – commemorating the two special shows they did this summer on that most legendary stage.
