Yorkshire Rocksters ‘Velvet Star’ are not the easiest band to pigeon hole.
By striking a heady mix of infectious Rock ‘n’ Roll, pitching the vigour of Iggy Pop with the guile of The Wildhearts and the attitude of Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Star are primed to take their ballsy concoction of Alt-Rock to the masses this Autumn in form of their new EP ‘All Or Nothing’, out 29th October...
Loaded up on grit and angst, Velvet Star started life back in 2007 when brothers Danny Jones (Vocals) & Corey Jones (Bass) set about with a manifesto of forming a band that would hopefully parallel the impact of early Manic Street Preachers.
As most stories go, the road to rock stardom is rarely a smooth one. And so along the way, the band’s route had its share of potholes and pitfalls, from financial set-backs to the unsettling revolving door of guitarists.
Danny comments "This is a ruthless, grind your knuckles to the bone business & we've had a few casualties".
Despite all this, the determined rockers have had their spoils of success. The band have been featured on Classic Rock's cover mount CD, penned a deal with Rocksector Records for the release of their debut album 'In The Face Of Vanity', which garnered national critical praise from Big Cheese and Classic Rock, and have extensively toured throughout the UK playing with Faster Pussycat, The Treatment, Star Rats, GUN, and Vains of Jenna, to name just a few.
In the Spring of 2012, Velvet Star mapped out an agenda to release a new EP in line with a hefty supporting tour, which once again resulted in the need to regroup and shift personnel.
The band solidified their existing line-up of Danny & Corey Jones (on Vocals and Bass respectively) and Ginna (Drums), and made the unit even stronger with the addition of Lead Guitarist Mewsy (Ex SilverJet) and new guitarist Robbie G (Ex Slash Vegas).
The rejuvenated five-some soon nailed a batch of fresh tunes and recorded their new EP ‘All or Nothing’ at Axis Studios with Matt Elliss (Black Spiders) at the controls.
Now with renewed thirst and hunger, Velvet Star are back and stronger than ever. The energetic five-piece release their blistering new EP ‘All or Nothing’ this October, and it’s an absolute belter.
Bursting with colossal choruses and sledge hammer riffs and spewing with fiery attitude, the record is sure to set a true bench mark for the Brit rock n’ rollers. Look out too for a lengthy jaunt throughout the UK in support of the record.
