Rising Essex female fronted five-piece ‘Held By Horses’, release their new EP ‘In History’ on 17th September, produced by Dan Lancaster (Lower Than Atlantis, Mallory Knox).
Pulling from Deaf Havana, Francesqa, and Lower Than Atlantis, Held By Horses are here to make their mark with a sound that merges sweeping vocals with hearty riffs and elephantine choruses.
Made up of Harriet Reynolds (vocals), Kyle Ginn (rhythm guitar), Will Smith (lead guitar), Charlie O’Halloran (bass) and Scott Dillon (drums), the band were formed in Chelmsford, Essex, at the beginning of January 2011.
With a fire in their bellies, they recorded their debut self-titled EP that Spring. Held By Horses soon after began to stretch their legs playing a host of shows throughout southern plains, racking up supports with the likes of Mallory Knox, Mystery Jets, Johnny Get The Gun, and Our People Versus Yours, in the process.
The lively five-some have continued to progress, and hit the recording studio again this year to lay down tracks for their brand new EP entitled "In History" with Dan Lancaster (Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco, and Mallory Knox).
The band came out of the studio with a record that perfectly balances melodic hooks with crushing riffage.
‘You Win Some, You Lose Some’ kicks the EP off, instantly displaying the quintet’s potent ability to serve up a killer tune. Moving forward, ‘The Last Word’ powerfully sets swaying, yet edgy rhythms against duo-prong vocal interchanges, aided by Renz Byrne from Never Means Maybe.
The record finishes with the colossal and hook-heavy ‘Virtues’, which suitably rounds up a highly impressive debut. With a host of UK dates in the works for the remainder of the year, the band are poised to break at any moment...
