Rising Northern progressive foursome ‘Cauls’ nationally unleash their sophomore release ‘EP2’ through Blank Records and all digital outlets on Monday 24th September.
Hailing from the North East of England, Cauls display an ambitious sound that rails against the din of predictability.
Evoking glowing comparisons to the likes of At the Drive-In and mewithoutYou, Cauls fuse the aggression of Deftones mixed with the intricate prog-prowess of The Mars Volta; yet the band bear their own markings, evidenced in the shape of their brand new hotly-tipped EP, simply entitled, ‘EP2’.
Originally formed three years ago in Newcastle, Cauls set out as an instrumental three-piece with Graham Morris serving up guitar scapes and riffery, Andrew McCaffery on Bass, and Chris McManus laying down the beats.
Though they earned their stripes playing a series of impressive shows throughout the North-East, the ever-expansive outfit found something was missing, and soon decided to add vocals to the mix to complete their sound.
After a lengthy recon mission, the trio recruited Michael Marwood as vocalist and the results were almost instantaneous. The foursome began to work on fresh material and have now finished their killer new release ‘EP2’.
The record displays the breadth of their ability across five distinct tracks, ranging from subtle introspection to violent catharsis. Inventive and accessible, Cauls have amalgamated a sound that is imaginative, emotive, and ambitious.
The post-hardcore crew have a comprehensive UK tour in the pipeline for later this year and dates lined up in Europe for 2013; watch them go.
