During a Jay Reatard concert in Austin, Texas, the U.S. rocker was assaulted by two drunk fans who jumped onstage. They were later arrested.

The star was wrapping up his set at a club called Emo's when the incident occurred.

Reatard tried to fight off the assailants using his microphone stand before storming off stage halfway through his final song.

Police intervened and arrested the two stage invaders, identified as Michael Buehrer, 20, and Peter Aravello, 23. Both were charged with public intoxication.

Reatard escaped uninjured and his publicist insists the rocker did nothing to provoke the attack.

The representative said:"Jay was attacked, totally unprovoked, by two different people, both of whom were later arrested.

"One guy bolted onstage and came swinging at Jay, but security took him away pretty quickly. Soon after... another guy sprinted onstage and hit Jay. Unlike the first guy, Jay didn't even see this guy coming. So Jay defended himself with the mic stand until security took that guy away, too.

"Jay is safe and unhurt, and the cops were there for about an hour afterwards."

Reatard concluded his U.S. tour in Dallas the following night and poked fun at the two men in a message on his Twitter.com page.

He wrote, "Another epic tour comes to an end... Thanks to all the good folks that came out and f**k you to the s**theads in Austin! How was jail haha."
