New Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Metallica are to open St. Petersburg's much-publicised new city stadium in 2010 as part of a whistle-stop Russian tour.
The heavy rockers are among the biggest draws ever in the former Soviet Union after performing for 60,000 music fans at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow in 2007 - and promoters are keen to get them back, offering the best venues.
Nadezhda Solovyova, who heads SAV Entertainment and Russky Show-Center, tells, "We have already arranged a stadium concert and now we want to do something new.
“We want to arrange a concert for the entire Olimpiysky (venue) with a circle in the middle. They have a specially-designed project for such a stage."
