Japanese rocker Kiyoshiro Imawano has lost his battle with throat cancer at the age of 58.

Imawano shot to fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of the band RC Succession, who achieved international success thanks to their anti-war and anti-nuclear lyrics.

After the band split, Imawamo performed as a solo artist and starred in a number of Japanese films before cancer forced him to retire in 2006 before it was confirmed the cancer had spread to his pelvic bones last year.

He died at the weekend in Tokyo and a funeral service will take place on 9 May in the Japanese capital, attended by Imawamo's widow Keiko Kurihara.
