Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor plunged into a spiral of depression after the band found fame - and came close to killing himself.

The rocker developed a serious drink problem and became so unhappy he considered jumping off a balcony at a Los Angeles hotel in 2004, but reaching rock bottom gave him the wake-up call he needed - he immediately quit alcohol and concentrated on his music.

Taylor tells FemaleFirst; "I came very close to throwing myself off an eight-storey balcony at the Hyatt on Sunset (Boulevard). It was one of those things where you wake up and realize that something's not working. I'd turned into a person who I didn't like and who I didn't respect.

"It started from that day - I decided not to drink anymore. I decided no more lies, no more crap. Luckily, it was during the recording process, so I got to vent a lot of that on Volume 3 (The Subliminal Verses)."

"I had to deal with a lot of s**t. There was a lot of introspection. I remember one show when I was sitting in the dressing room, holding my mask, and I just had a mental breakdown. I was so unhappy. Not about the band but about everything."
