After their jaw-dropping performance at last night's 51st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, Barker announced the band's reformation stating, "We used to play music together, and we decided we're going to play music together again" with Hoppus adding "Blink-182 is back!"
The message, which appears on the bands official website states; "Hi, we're Blink 182. This past week there've been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us.
"To put it simply, We're back. We mean, we're really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in out legacy. Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready..."
After the initial screeching and listening to the entire back catalogue of the guys, the questions began to cloud my star coloured visions; I mean, have blink 182 had their day now and should the leave it to the kids?
So many bands have been trying to make a comeback recently, and although there is no doubt that Travis Barker's near death plane crash brought the boys back together again, is it possible that those deep wounds that were opened when Ton De Longe left to form Angels And Airwaves are finally healed?
The break up was highly publicised, and Mark Hoppus and Travis made no qualms about openly expressing their bitterness towards De Longe as they were forced to form +44, with the hateful lyrics of No It Isn't allowing Mark to show his vehemence towards his former bandmate. Ouch!
Besides, what are the other member of +44 and AVA going to do now? Go back to working in Walmart or something? After all, Angels And Airwaves were due to release a new album later this year and +44 had also been hoping to write the follow up to 2006's self titled album.
What's more, It wont be easy for the trio to just come back and assume their position at the peak of the pop punk roster, in their four year absence fellow veterans of the field New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio have stepped it up and put out thoroughly impressive efforts, while there's been some hot new faces on the scene in the form of All Time Low, Four Year Strong, Forever The Sickest Kids and many more.
Okay, so Take That and The Spice Girls have had a pretty good run since attempting to make a comeback over the past year or so, but for many bands; their day has passed and the younger audiences want something new and fresh, and above all - boy bands that they can have crushes on... although with Blink 182 I still totally would!
I guess only time will tell, but one thing's for sure, I'll still be at their comeback show.
