Hard rock veterans Anthrax cancelled the first three concerts on their new European tour over the weekend, after frontman Dan Nelson was struck down with a mystery illness.
The band was scheduled to kick off its latest road trip in Sweden on Saturday followed by performances in Denmark and Germany on Sunday and Monday respectively - but the plug was pulled last week when Nelson fell ill.
In a statement released on Friday, Anthrax announced, "(We) regretfully announce that the first three shows of our European tour are cancelled. Yesterday, lead singer Dan Nelson unexpectedly informed the band that he was seriously ill and unable to travel or perform at this time.
“Options for the balance of Anthrax's European tour dates are being addressed posthaste. The members of Anthrax are devastated by this unfortunate turn of events and ask all of their fans to join them in wishing Dan the speediest of recoveries."
The band is next scheduled to take the stage in Barcelona, Spain on Saturday.
