Jocelyn Brown is a woman responsible for one of the biggest club hits of all time ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’, written by Jocelyn and made famous by Ce Ce Peniston in the late 90’s.
Yet even before this Jocelyn was working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, John Lennon, Luther Vandross, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, George Benson, Teddy Pendergrass, Culture Club, Masters At Work and many others.
Jocelyn’s soul shaking voice engulfs every listener with extended arms, and her latest project ‘True Praises’ is her most personal yet.
It is not the sound of someone settling into retirement. ‘True Praises’ it’s what happens when someone whose life journey has been long, bold and varied takes time to reflect her worship of God through music.
Faith has played a vital role in Jocelyn’s career. "If it had not been for my faith I don’t know where I would be..." she explains.
I Got The Power sampled by Snap and was used as the main drive of the international number one single ‘The Power’ and it’s this ‘power’ that Jocelyn is brings to ‘True Praises’.
An album soaked to the bone with worship and delivered with all the very best that the gospel and the current urban sound has to offer.
From the blues flavour of ‘Jesus Is All The World’ to the urban styling of ‘Stand Up’ through to the R’n’B of ‘Jesus I Will Never Forget’ and the vintage gospel of ‘Old Rugged Cross’, ‘My Help’ and ‘Sunday Morning’, Jocelyn leaves you feeling uplifted and enlightened.
Jocelyn covers a range of styles, but without delivering a musical pick n mix. Instead, these twelve tracks are precisely what they need to be: true. Through and through.
"The album has a classic gospel sound teamed up with a contemporary sound of today’s praise and worship," explains Jocelyn.
"With the musical expertise of Nicky Brown, Les Moir and myself you have a combination of each of our musical experiences, which is fantastic!"
‘True Praises’ is an album that deserves to sit alongside the leading contemporary praise and worship albums. With a message as strong as this, delivered with such skill and power, it surely will.
Catch the soul legend live at London’s beautiful Union Chapel (London N1) on April 14th where she will be performing ‘True Praises’ in its entirety.
