Chad Gilbert discovered he had a potentially cancerous growth on his thyroid after he sought medical help for pneumonia.
The New Found Glory guitarist was shocked when doctors told him they had to urgently operate to remove "suspicious cells" after he made an appointment to get treatment for the inflammatory lung condition.
And the musician, who is dating Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, has thanked fans for their messages of support. He tells Kerrang! magazine, "Two weeks ago, I went to the doctor with pneumonia. They found nodules in my thyroid and one of them was a little bigger than a quarter. They did a biopsy and the report came back that there were some suspicious cells.
"I was scared in the waiting room. I read your (fans' Twitter) replies. They gave me strength. They removed half my thyroid, but no cancer. Thanks for your prayers."
