Beyonce was in tears after hearing Etta James had lashed out at her during a concert, but only because she found her idol’s scathing comments hilarious.
James insisted her controversial rant against U.S. President Barack Obama and Beyonce, unleashed during a January concert in Seattle, Washington, was a joke - and the pop superstar insists she had no doubt her the singing legend was having a little fun.
James told the crowd Obama has "big ears", adding, "He ain't my president." She also slammed Beyonce for singing a version of her signature tune At Last for Obama following his inauguration, and said, "I can't stand Beyonce! She had no business up there singing... Singing my song that I've been singing forever."
But the Crazy In Love superstar knew James wasn't being serious: "I played Etta James (in Cadillac Records), so I did my research, I read her book. I was not at all surprised. That's Etta. She's hilarious."
