As the first official ballad release from Sam Smith, 'Stay With Me' had a lot to prove, and it's certainly managed to surpass all expectations, as the rising star proves his versatility in mere moments.
At just under three minutes it's a tad short - with such beautiful vocals throughout and a simple yet extremely worthwhile instrumental, it would have been ever better with an extra verse.
The lyrics are emotional - written by Sam, Tourist and Jimmy Napes - and as acoustic performances of this track have proved so far, Sam is in constant control of his fantastic and melodic range without the need for help.
There's nothing else you can say about this song. It hits you hard in the gut and stays there for a good while after listening - if you manage to take it off repeat.
If you're looking to treat yourself, purchase the EP for some fantastic remixes, and if this song is anything to go by, Sam's debut album should be one of the most impressive records this year.
Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' is out now, and debut album 'In The Lonely Hour' is due for release on May 26.
