Kings of Leon return to centre stage with their brand new single Supersoaker.
The song is their first new release in two years and sees the Tennessee rock band move away from the stripped back feel of their last album Come Around Sundown.
Supersoaker is a return to the Kings of Leon’s first two albums, with heady guitar riffs and screeching vocals. The melody is certainly catchy enough and the rockers seem to be enjoying themselves.
However, personally I feel that Come Around Sundown’s sound far outstrips this back-to-basics track.
Caleb Followhill’s vocals are mediocre at best. The lyrics are muddled up during the chorus which prevents the sing-along feel that should accompany such anthems.
The lead guitar is thankfully still something to be admired, but Supersoaker can’t shake off what is rather a damp squid of a track.
The first run through doesn’t grab you as it should, and while it’s still worth a listen, it is underwhelming compared to their previous two albums.
Supersoaker is out now.
