It has been over ten years since we have heard new material from Squeeze but this year they are back with their new track Tommy.
Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook have always been a great writing partnership and that trend continues with Tommy as this is a track that tells a real story.
The instrumentation on this is great as the vocals on the verses are supported wonderfully by the violin and it really gives this track a great sound.
Squeeze has kept everything on this track incredibly simple from the vocals right through to the production and that simplicity works really well.
They haven’t tried to do anything fancy with the backing track or put any treatment on the vocal and because of that they are able to let their music take centre stage.
The band have been back out on the road this autumn playing live shows to their army of fans and Tommy is just one of the new tracks that they have been showing off.
Squeeze grabbed everyone’s attention back in the seventies and while Tommy is in keeping with their sound there is a very contemporary feel to it.
It is good to see Squeeze back writing music once again and Tommy is one of the most unique sounding singles of the year.
