River Seven

River Seven
Album: River Seven
Label: Wembley House Records Inc
Rating: 3/5

River Seven is the latest music export from Canada and this three piece have bee creating plenty of waves in their home country.

And it’s not hard to see why they are having become so popular they are an easy band to listen and this is a solid record.

The album opens with Follow Me In and this is great first song for the record as it’s an up beat track about the uncertainties of love and how sometimes we need to take a leap of faith.

You Changed The Rules and Love To Belong are just a couple more pop/rock ballads that make up this record.

Something’s Gotta Give is one of the highlights on the album and it really could be one of the singles for the boys - it’s one of the more upbeat songs and it’s good to see them move away from the ballads.

River Seven do throw in a couple of covers for good measure and while Everybody Here Wants You, which was originally done by Jeff Buckley, is reasonably faithful to the original.

However nobody should ever be allowed to over any song by Jimi Hendricks and while the boys take a stab at Little Wing it really is something that should have been left well alone.

Unfortunately River Seven could have been recorded by any pop/rock band - they really do have a sound of Maroon 5, and they haven’t really carved out an identity with this record.

Don’t get me wrong River Seven is a very pleasant listen but it is just a little forgettable and run of the mill.

While there is nothing that I dislike on the record there is nothing that smacks you in the face and makes you think ‘wow what a great record’.

But they are very radio friendly band and should enjoy plenty of success where ever they go.
