Laura Mvula is an artist that has been tipped for great things in 2013 and she is back this week with her debut album Sing To The Moon.

She received critical acclaim with her EP ‘She’ last year and now we get to enjoy twelve new tracks from the singer/songwriter.

Like The Morning Dew kicks off this incredible record which doesn’t just show off her incredible vocal but it also features some beautiful instrumentation.

This is a track that really allows the album to burst into life and the stirring stings while the double bass and glockenspiel go so well together.

We see a very different side to Mvula on Make Me Lovely as she gives a harsher and more ballsy vocals performance in places on this track; that is contrasted wonderfully with some more delicate moments.

Once again the orchestra instruments that feature on this track compliment the vocal so well and they never overpower or get in the way of Mvula’s voice.

Green Garden is the currently single from album and the quite sparse in terms of backing music compared to the first two tracks.

But the hand clapping and constant drums gives this track real rhythm and catches and hold your attention from start to finish.

You never know what you are going to get with this artist and Can’t Live With The Wold is the perfect example of this as she chances the sound and the pace again.

This is quite a stripped back track that allows Mvula’s vocals really take centre stage. There is a real delicate to this track and it give you a moment to breath after the excitement of the opening few tracks.

This album sees Mvula confidently move between different genres; staying true to her gospel roots but including some jazz and blues from time to time. The vocals throughout are also fantastically layered and this gives each and every track a real depth.

Sing To The Moon is a terrific album from start to finish and it is not hard to see why everyone is getting super excited about this artist.

This is such an eclectic sounding record as she varies her sound from track to track resulting in no two songs being anything like one another.

Of course you admire Mvula as a singer and a songwriter with this album but the instrumentation on this record is simple exquisite.

If Laura Mvula continues producing records like this than huge success is set to come her way.
