Rating: 4/5
Josh Rouse is one of the most exciting singing and writing talents and he is back with his new album The Happiness Waltz.
This is his first album since Josh Rouse And The Long Vacation back in 2011 and this is his most personal record yet as he has been inspired by being a husband and a father.
Julie (Come out of the Rain) is the opening track on the album and this track very much shows us what we can expect from the rest of the album - well crafted songs that mix elements of pop and folk.
Rouse is famed for his Nashville tinged pop and that is exactly what this opening track is as we are reintroduced to his soothing vocals.
He picks up the pace with Simple Pleasure in what is another incredibly upbeat and positive track that you cannot help but get swept along with.
Our Love has more of a poignant feel to it as Rouse contemplates age and the passing of time and it is a track that many people will be able to relate to.
There is a wide range of instrumentation on this record from guitar, piano as well as a range of strings and they all sound fantastic.
The Happiness Waltz is not an album that sees Josh Rouse make a bold statement he just delivers what he does best - and he really is on top form with this record.
This album really does seem to capture the feeling of some of his previous records and it is great to see him nod back to that sound.
But there is move of a grown up and experienced feel to this album as you get the impression that Rouse has been influenced by events of his life so far and he has incorporated that into his music.
The Happiness Waltz is a well crafted record that is so easy to sit back and listen to as Rouse has delivered a series of almost flawless tracks.
