At the end of last year Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate released their album Faya and this week they lift the title single from the successful.
Faya sees New York influences fuse with those of West Africa to result in a track that is mix of sounds and flavours - and it work so well.
On paper I suppose it is a bit of an unlikely collaboration and yet it works so magnificently; Kouyate is widely regarded as the Jimi Hendrix of kora and this harp like instrument just goes so well with Driscoll’s rap vocals.
The kora licks and Driscoll’s quick firing rhyming makes the track very atmospheric as Kouyate and Driscoll’s musical styles well and truly meet.
If you haven’t had chance t check out the full album yet then you really should give it a listen as it was one of the most uniquely sounding records of last year.
I suppose this is a collaboration that should just doesn’t work but there is a real musical chemistry between Driscoll and Kouyate and they have created a sound that you can’t help but get lost in.
