The Sea were responsible for one of the catchiest tracks of 2012 - if you haven’t heard New York then you really should check it out - from their great album Rooftops and now they are back.
High On… is the first of two planned EP releases this year for the music making brothers and this time there is a rockier edge to the six tracks that they have delivered.
Letter Bomb kicks off the record is one the heaviest tracks that we have had from the boys in some time and it is a fine way to kick off this EP.
It is an assault on your sense as the driving guitars really will make you sit up and make you take note while Peter D‘Chisholme‘s vocals are also on fine form.
Run is a track that has a real swagger to it as Alex and Peter blend rock and blues elements to great effect.
There is also a real energy to this track that is just relentless as the guitar and drums knock up the pace with every note.
Number One serves as a brief interlude that allows you to catch your breathe after the excitement of the first two tracks.
It is a quiet moment that lasts just a minute and a half but it really does allow the vocals to take centre stage for a brief second.
But Number One is the pause before the storm as it was as Get Up Stand Up Die is another fast paced track.
This track really is very much about the drums as Alex shows everyone just what he is made of as he keeps an explosive pace.
High On… has a completed different sound to last year’s release Rooftops and it is great to see the duo experimenting with and expanding their sound.
And if you were expecting a sound similar to Rooftops with this new EP then you really are in for a shock the Alex and Peter put the pedal to the metal
The Sea - High On… EP is out now.
