Rating: 4/5
It was back in 2011 that Presley Johnson released their self entitled debut album and now the band is back with the second offering Images of Youth.
And while the boys have been whipping up a storm on the live circuit it is great to see them back with some new material as they really are a terrific band.
We Had It All kicks off the album off in fine style as it is a great slice of indie rock that is infectious from the first note to the very last.
This is a track that is packed with melodic hooks as well as great rhythms and it is one of the strongest songs on this great album.
Anita’s Last Dance sees them bring the pace down a bit as they inject a rather unexpected folk/country element to their sound.
There is a fun and almost mischievous feel to this track and it is one of my favourite songs on this terrific record.
Sinking Ships is another rather uniquely sounding track as it sounds nothing like the first two as the band uses the opening part of the album to show off the many different sides to their sound - they really are a very versatile foursome.
Oh Love is another highlight as the acoustic format sees the band totally stripped back and laid bare. There is more of a personal and intimate feel to this track and it really is another gem of a song.
Presley Johnson have come a long way since they released their debut album nearly two years ago and they have delivered a record that has seen them grow in terms of their sound and their confidence.
And the band have just produced great track after great track as the end of the album is just as strong as the beginning as they continue to mix up their sound.
Presley Johnson is a band to look out for over the summer as they deserve to have huge success with a record like this under their belt.
