Loud and thrilling, the most inventive punk rock record for years.
Goldblade are an English Punk-Rock band from Manchester, England. Their sixth album ‘The Terror of Modern Life’ was released yesterday and critics say that it is possibly their darkest and powerful album yet. The band originally formed in
the 90’s and then signed to Ultimate Records and released their first single ‘Soul Power.’ They then released their debut album ‘Home Turf’ and then their following album ‘Goldblade Drop the Bomb’ before several band members started to depart. When signing to a new record label, Twenty Stone Blatt four of the original members of Goldblade had left the band and they had to be replaced.
Goldblade have toured all over the UK and performed at some of the biggest festivals including Reading festival, Wickerman festival and Glastonbury. Their new album has only been released for a day and the album already has positive reviews. Cristina Massei at Sonic Shocks says ‘Maintaining all promises and exceeding fans expectations, ‘The Terror of Modern Life’ is in all respects a Goldblade album: it’s fast, it’s raw, it’s political and it’s rebellious.’ Rock and Reel magazine are calling their new album ‘Loud and thrilling, the most inventive punk rock record for years. Ground breaking.’
With the opening track ‘This is War’ you can immediately get a sense of the raw energy and power behind the words that are being sung. There are a lot of strong choruses throughout the entire album but one chorus that stood out for me was the one in the song ‘Psycho Takes a Holiday’ which has brilliant guitar riffs and passionate sing-a-long parts.
Punk is a music genre that I am unfamiliar with so I feel that I can’t compare it to any other albums in this particular genre. Punk-Rock is a type of music that isn’t suitable to everyone’s tastes, including mine. However, I did enjoy a few of the songs on the album and I will definitely listen to some of their old material to create a fair opinion of their music.
‘Someone Stole My Brain’ and ‘They Kiss like Humans, Act like Machines’ are the tracks that I personally disliked. However, I did enjoy the track named ‘Sick/Tired’and the opening track ‘This is War.’
If you enjoy Punk-Rock and you like your music to have pounding tribal funk rhythms and dark powerful lyrics then the
new Goldblade album is for you. They are playing live in several places over the next couple of months including Leeds, Doncaster, Blackpool and Newcastle. Check online for ticket details.
