Common Tongues have already grabbed everyone’s attention with their terrific single Solitary Thinker and now they are back with their EP Tether & Twine.
We were huge fans of Solitary Thinker when it was released earlier this year and we have been looking forward to this EP release for some time - and it doesn’t disappoint.
Solitary Thinker kicks off the EP in fine style we are treated to Common Tongues’ powerful and broody style as well as Tom Anderson’s stunning vocals.
While the track my start of quite slow and melancholy it does pick up pace and it turns into an incredibly catchy track - it is one of those tracks that just get stuck in your head.
There is a real majestic beauty to this track and it really does show off all that is awesome about this very exciting band.
Who Said The Word’s A Weapon has a much heavier sound to the opening track and it shows that the band can really mix up their sound.
There is almost a duel between the guitars and the violin on this track and it really does elevate this song to really great things.
Something’s Got To Give is another track that starts out slow before the pace really kicks in and allows the track to fly.
There is a wonderful layering of guitars, strings and keyboards that create a real atmosphere on the track - further heightened by deep and earthy vocals from Anderson.
Praying To God starts out as almost an acoustic track before it really crescendos into quite an anthemia track - it is one of those songs that you know will just sound so terrific live.
I am genuinely excited about Common Tongues and Tether & Twine really is an outstanding EP full of powerful and emotive songs. They are melodic and hook laden tracks that show off the band’s vocal prowess as well as fine writing style.
They haven’t tried to do anything clever with the production of this record and have let the vocals, writing and instrumentation take centre stage, and it works beautifully well.
The release of Solitary Thinker really did suggest that a great EP was on the horizon and the band really have lived up to that and I hope they enjoy huge success this year. This is a record not to be missed.
