Black Books are a small indie rock band from Austin, Texas who have gained many US blog attention, comparing them to the likes of Grandaddy, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses plus the iconic, Pink Floyd.

The band consists of guitarist, Kevin Butler, keyboardist, Clark Curtis, keyboardist/vocalist, Meg Gilfillan, drummer/lead vocalist, Ross Gilfillan and bassist, Mike Parker. But what really makes this band unique is that guitarist; Kevin Butler produces all of the band’s music whilst keyboardist; Clarke Curtis creates all the artwork and gig posters for the band.

Pop in the album and you will be welcomed by the first song of the album, ‘Favourite Place’. With its heavy drum beat and dreamy vocals, this song promises you great things to come from the album. ‘Take Take Take’ is one of the more energetic songs on the album with its heavier beat and faster pace. The instruments can be heard clearly on this track with the use of the keyboard, this song has a unique sound to it. This song is sure to get you on your feet! This is one of the best tracks on the album.

The album ends with ‘Out The Door’, which starts with a slow beat and gentle vocals. This track shows what the band can really do, with the vocalist showing us his vocal range, reaching for all those ‘hard to reach’ high notes. Once this track ends, it will keep you begging for more.
