One of the rock bands to watch in the latter half of 2012 is Valve Rider as they release their debut album this week Bring It On Heavy.
This is a no nonsense rock record from the North West band featuring some great solo guitar work and fantastic vocals.
Judge is the opening track on the record and immediately the guitars ring out you know that this is a track that has real swagger.
Adam Ward vocal is incredibly distinctive and he has a powerful presence without ever having to go over the top.
But the vocal gives way to a superb guitar solo in the middle of the track and there is just something old school about this band - which I have to say is quite refreshing.
Ward picks it up on song Bring It On Heavy as he roars through the lyrics and there is a real gravely sound to his voice.
Cross The Line is a particular highlight as Valve Rider mix rock with a southern blues sound - seriously the introduction to this track is just awesome.
While the tracks before it are great there is just something more to this and it seems that this is the band’s natural sound.
They mix it up again with Shovelhead, the very next track, as they show off their instrumental prowess by dropping the vocal.
This is rock and roll and its very best and Shovelhead will definitely be a highlight of any live set!!!!
Mine’s A Whiskey is another highlight and one of the heaviest tracks on the early half of the album - this is another that will sound great live.
There is a gritty element to Mine’s A Whiskey as Ward’s deep and rich vocal is supported fantastically by the driving guitars.
Valve Rider show that they are a rock band with a real bite with Bring It On Heavy and it will be great to see what the band does next.
