The Staves have already been whipping up a storm on the live circuit and now the trio of sisters are back with their debut album Dead & Born & Grown.

Wisely & Slow is a stark way to kick off the album as the sister show off their superb voices and harmonies in this stripped back and very beautiful track.

It is a brave way to kick off a record but it really shows of the talent that these girls have as a trio - not to mention you really get to hear what they are singing about rather than the meaning of the song being lost beneath the production.

And that is what is so great about this record, and the other artists who have released record in this genre this year, they have put the music ahead of the production - the voices and the music is the most important element of this record.

The drums kick in about three quarters of the way through the track and it really does lift the track and gives a different dimension to their vocals.

Gone Tomorrow kicks off with an acoustic guitar as The Staves go for a less stark track than the opening. And the guitar is the perfect accompaniment to their voices as it is delicate and soft and really allows their voice to take centre stage and drive the track forward.

But it is the flawless harmonies that not only make this track but the whole album and hearing thee three voices come together is a real joy to hear.

The Motherlode is another example of this fantastic formula as a solo turns into perfect harmonies with such grace and ease - it really does sound so beautifully effortless.

Pay Us No Mind has a one of the tracks that does stand out on the album as the electric guitar and deep vocals is just so different to the sound of the rest of the album.

There is almost a Blues feel to the track and it is great see the trio show off a different sound and style. It is a track where the plodding melody just washes over you - no to mention that the lyrics are a little more aggressive than anything else on the record.

Snow is another acoustic track as they return to their trademark - but it is another gem of a song as they tell a real story with their song writing.

Like most of the songs on this record the track it both beautiful as well as thought provoking.

Dead & Born & Grown is a fantastic debut record from The Staves that shows them off as not only great vocalists but also great songwriters.

The stark opening to the album really is a very bold move and it is this track that will really hook you and draw you into the rest of this fantastic record.

This is an album that has put music at its core and it shows off the real talent that these three sisters possess - it really is a record that is not to be missed.
