The Jive Aces have already enjoyed a twenty year career but saw their profile boosted when they got through to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.
This week the band is back with their new album The Jive Aces - King of the Swingers: A Salute To Louis Prima.
The record mixes covers of Louis Prima records as well as some of the tracks that they have been winning fans over with on the road.
The Jive Aces mix swing and jive elements to bring a completely unique sound to their music that you can’t help but get swept along with.
Oh Babe is the opening track on the record and as soon as the trumpets kick in you know that you are in for a lively and upbeat song.
And while The Jive Aces may be covering old tracks they put their own quirky spin on them to give them a new and fresh vibe.
There is no greater example of this than with Bring Me Sunshine and Over The Rainbow - two of the best known and best loved tracks.
These two songs are a couple of the none Louis Prima covers on the record but are also two of the major highlights.
Bring Me Sunshine has an acoustic start that is laid back and slow and shows off Ian Clarkson’s great vocals.
But they start to layer the track as the piano and a saxophone kick in and these instruments give the track real depth - it does work better with all these great sounding instruments on rather than just using a guitar.
And if you think that this track is going to follow a very familiar path than all the covers that have gone before then you couldn’t be more wrong as The Jive Aces turn this track on its head and well and truly put their own stamp on it.
They speed the track up and give it a fantastic jive feel - and it is something that works really well and is completely different to versions we have heard before.
Similarly with Over The Rainbow they have sped the song up and included an incredibly energetic piano and saxophone.
But this is not just all about The Jive Aces as the likes of Marco Palos, Rebecca Grant and Toni Elizabeth Prima to give the vocals on the record some variety.
King of the Swingers: A Salute To Louis Prima shows The Jive Aces at their very best and brings some old tracks to a new generation.
