Artist: Skarlett Riot
Album: Villain EP
OUT NOW
Rating: 4/5
There aren’t too many female fronted rock bands around at the moment but this week Skarlett Riot show us what they are all about with their debut EP Villain.
The British four piece show off their garage rock and roll style with Skarlett taking the lead vocals on the record.
Party Hard is the opening tack to the EP and it’s a very energetic and upbeat track - that no doubt will go down a storm when played live.
Skarlett delivers some very powerful vocals and that is supported by some great guitar riffs, the guitars and the drums really do have a pounding effect on the track.
It is the vocals that take centre stage in the first half of the song before they die away and they are replaced by a brilliant guitar solo - this works so well and it makes it such a memorable opening track.
They bring the pace down a notch with Read My Lips it’s a real empowerment song and there is quite an edge to this track - one of the strongest on the album.
Skarlett’s vocals really do take charge of the song but, once again, there are some guitars and bass elements that support the vocals.
There is perhaps more of a classic feel to You’re The Enemy and that is thanks to the heavy bass elements on the track.
Villain opens with some great guitar work before Skarlett’s fabulous vocals kick in, she really doesn’t miss a beat throughout this entire album.
Villain is very much like the opening track it’s infections and catchy and there is a delicate balance between letting the vocals and the backing instruments take centre stage.
Skarlett Riot have produced a handful of quality rock and roll tracks that a full of powerful and catchy hooks and riffs.
There is a real Courtney Love feel to lead lady Skarlett and her very powerful vocals and I can’t wait to see them put together a debut album of twelve tracks as they really are an exciting band.
