Sandi Thom is back this week with her new album Flesh And Blood - an album that has been released on her independent label.
Sandi Thom is one of the greatest female vocalists around and she has delivered an album that is packed full of great tracks that really show off that great vocal.
And in the very first track Help Me you see that Thom is on great vocal form as she powers through the track.
The song was originally written by Sonny Boy Williamson II and there is a fantastic nod to the Blues harmonica in the middle of the track as a nod to the musician.
But Thom has put her own stamp on this track and it is one of the most upbeat tracks on the record and a great song to start off with.
Not only is Thom a fantastic vocalist but her writing skills are also first rate and she demonstrates that with I Own You Zero - which is an incredibly personal record.
Thom draws on experiences from her own life to pen this song and she delivers it was such power and emotion that it really is one of the best tracks on the album.
The acoustic guitar complements her voice perfectly while letting it take centre stage - the electric guitar then kicks in to give the track a bit of bite.
Title track Flesh and Blood is another highlight and perhaps one of the poppier tracks on the album - it’s nice to see her mixing up the genres.
She brings the pace down a notch or two with the likes of I Love You Like A Lunatic as it is a delicate track as she sings about the major relationship in her life.
For those who remember Sandi Thom’s single I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker this album ma come as a bit of a surprise ass she moves away from pop in favour of a more Blue/rock sound.
But it is a move that does work incredibly well as she has created a collection of tracks that have Blues and country and rock influences - it seems to be a style that really suits her.
Flesh And Blood is the best album that Sandi Thom has released so far as she shows of what a vocal and song-writing force she is.
