It has been fourteen years since Richie Sambora released a solo album but this week sees him return with his third record Aftermath Of The Lowdown.
Sambora established himself away from Bon Jovi with Stranger In This Town in 1991 and Undiscovered Soul seven years later in 1998 but this is his most personal record to date.
But That Candle Down is the opening track to the record and it is real rock and roll start as Sambora shows off what he does best - the guitars well and truly rings out from start to finish.
This is a track that just pulsates with energy and life and it is one of the best tracks on the record - this one track a lone tells you that the fourteen year wait for a new Sambora track was well worth it.
Burn That Candle Down crescendos into a fantastic solo that while the distorted sounding vocals really do work well.
Every Road Leads Home To You is the first single to be lifted off the record and with this rock ballad Sambora shows off his great writing skills.
This is an uplifting love song with a great hook and comes to a close with Sambora playing a few notes on an acoustic guitar - which is a really nice touch.
The acoustic guitar opens up Taking A Chance On The Wind before the electric guitar kicks in and once again the melodies soar in another energetic track.
But it is not all about rock as Weathering The Storm has more of a Blues feel to it while Sugar Daddy is one of the most modern sounding tracks on the album - perhaps a little grungier than what we are use to hearing from Sambora.
Always Walk Beside You is another of the album’s not to missed tracks as it is another beautiful and powerful ballad.
It opens acoustically as Sambora shows off the delicacy of his vocal in what is a true and emotional performance.
This is the most personal and emotional album that Sambora has ever recorded as he sings about divorce, being a parent, and substance abuse in an incredibly raw recording.
And no track demonstrates that more than You Can Only Get So High in what is the most sincere song on the album.
Aftermath Of The Lowdown shows off Sambora at his vocal, song-writing and musical best as he delivers an album that is one of the best rock records of 2012 so far.
